What Happens In Hell?
Praise the Lord everybody. Today we’re going to talk about a subject that rarely comes up in the Church today, and that subject is “Hell” and what happens there. A lot of Christians and the World believe that Hell does not exist and is just a metaphor for our trials and tribulations.
First of all, Hell is real, and Jesus preached on it more than anyone else in the Bible. Jesus mentions Hell at least 16 times, not always calling it by name but it is obvious what He is talking about. Jesus states in Matthew 10: 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. In this scripture Jesus lets us know at least two things, one that Hell is a real place and two, that it is a place to fear and that there is something worse than physical death. The Bible tells us that we are “living souls” in addition to physical beings. (Genesis 2:7KJV) The soul is the part of us that feels things, touches things, works, and in other words it experiences things.
Those of us who are in Christ when we die, only experience the death of our physical bodies, while our souls go on to be with God. Those who die in sin go to Hell along with their souls where they experience the torment of the Devil. Jesus tells us in Matthew 13:36-43 36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so, shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
This is Jesus talking about Hell and what happens there. When you get a chance read the whole chapter. Hell is a place where sinners, non-believers, and anyone else not washed in the blood of Christ go when they die. Hell was originally reserved for Satan and his fallen angel followers.(Matthew 25:41NIV) According to the Bible Hell has been expanding itself ever since sin entered the world through Adam and Eve.(Isaiah 5:14) Hell is a place of torment from which there is no exit, Jesus said there will be “wailing/weeping and gnashing of teeth.” They will weep because now they realize that the Gospel is true after all, and now it’s too late to do anything about it. The thing is, when we die physically and our souls step off into eternity, where will they spend it?
The Bible is full of scripture talking about Hell and who is going there and what happens when they get there, but we don’t have time to go over them all here. Let me leave you with these scriptures to read and to chew on. God bless you all.
